AIDS

Overview

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a disease caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). There is currently no cure, and once infected a person carries the virus for life, though it can be controlled with proper treatment. HIV targets the immune system, and without treatment the immune system is gradually destroyed. The disease is generally divided into four stages: acute infection, latency, symptomatic phase, and typical AIDS onset.

Treatment

The core is standardized antiretroviral therapy, requiring lifelong timely medication and regular monitoring; early diagnosis and treatment significantly improve prognosis, and safety precautions help prevent transmission.
