Leukemia
HematologyOverview
Leukemia (blood cancer) is a group of progressive malignant tumors of the blood-forming organs, caused by differentiation arrest, impaired apoptosis, and malignant proliferation of hematopoietic stem or progenitor cells. It is characterized by qualitative and quantitative abnormalities of white blood cells and their immature precursors in the blood and bone marrow, suppressing normal bone marrow function and infiltrating organs such as the liver, spleen, and lymph nodes. Symptoms include bleeding and bruising, fatigue, and increased risk of infection.
