Dengue Fever

Overview

Dengue fever is an acute mosquito-borne infectious disease caused by the dengue virus and transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions. It mainly presents with high fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, rash, and leukopenia, with bleeding and shock in severe cases.

• Retro-orbital pain
• Muscle and joint pain
• Rash
• Bleeding tendency

Treatment

Treatment is currently mainly symptomatic and supportive, with attention to fluid replacement and platelet monitoring, avoiding medications that may worsen bleeding, and hospitalization for severe cases.

Dietary advice

Drink plenty of water, eat a light, easily digestible, high-vitamin diet, and avoid hard and irritating foods.
