Venomous Snakebite

Overview

A venomous snakebite is a wound caused by a venomous snake in which toxin is injected into the body. It can cause local swelling and pain, bleeding, coagulation disorders, and systemic envenomation, and may be life-threatening.

Symptoms

• Local swelling and pain
• Bleeding from fang marks
• Numbness
• Systemic envenomation symptoms
• Coagulation abnormalities

Treatment

Immobilize the affected limb and seek medical care promptly, administer the appropriate antivenom as early as possible, and provide local wound care with symptomatic and supportive treatment.

Dietary advice

Eat a light, easily digestible diet, drink plenty of water to promote toxin elimination, and avoid tobacco, alcohol, and spicy foods.
