Pneumonia is inflammation of the lung, most often caused by viral or bacterial infection. Common symptoms include productive cough, chest pain, fever and difficulty breathing, ranging from mild to severe.

Treatment
Bacterial pneumonia is treated primarily with antibiotics, along with fever reduction and cough/phlegm relief, rest and fluids. Severe cases or breathing difficulty require prompt medical care and possibly hospitalization.
Dietary advice
Light, easily digestible, protein-rich meals with plenty of fluids to thin secretions. Avoid spicy and greasy foods; quit smoking and alcohol.
