Miliaria (Heat Rash)

Overview

Miliaria is a superficial inflammatory skin condition caused by blocked and ruptured sweat ducts due to poor sweat drainage in hot, humid environments. It is common in summer and in infants, typically affecting the neck, chest, and back with dense small papules and vesicles accompanied by itching or stinging.

Symptoms

• Dense small papules
• Stinging itch
• Poor sweat drainage
• Common on neck, chest, and back
• Common in summer

Treatment

Caused by blocked sweat ducts. Keep the skin clean and cool, and apply prickly-heat powder or calamine lotion.

Dietary advice

Eat a light diet, drink plenty of water, and eat cooling, heat-clearing fruits and vegetables.
