Wasp Sting

Overview

A wasp sting is an injury caused by a wasp injecting venom through its stinger. Reactions range from localized pain and swelling to, in sensitive individuals, a severe systemic allergic reaction.

Symptoms

• Local redness and swelling
• Severe pain
• Itching
• Skin wheals
• Anaphylaxis in severe cases

Treatment

Remove the stinger and clean the wound, apply local cold compresses to relieve pain, and manage any systemic allergic reaction as an anaphylaxis emergency.

Dietary advice

Eat a light diet, drink plenty of water, avoid spicy and allergenic foods, and supplement with vitamin C.
