Overview

The Achilles tendon, located at the back of the lower leg, is the strongest tendon in the body, connecting the calf muscles to the heel bone. Achilles tendinitis is inflammation of this tendon, often caused by overuse and repetitive strain.

Symptoms

  • Heel pain
  • Local swelling
  • Limited movement
  • Morning stiffness

Treatment

Treatment is mainly rest, ice, physical therapy, and anti-inflammatory analgesics, combined with Achilles tendon stretching and avoiding strenuous exercise.

Dietary advice
