Overview

Joint dislocation is an injury in which the articular surfaces of the bones forming a joint lose their normal alignment, usually caused by external force. It typically presents with joint pain, swelling, deformity, and loss of function, and may be accompanied by injury to surrounding ligaments, blood vessels, and nerves.

Symptoms

  • Joint deformity
  • Severe pain
  • Impaired movement
  • Swelling

Treatment

Prompt closed reduction with immobilization, followed by functional rehabilitation; recurrent dislocation may require surgical repair.
