Osteomyelitis is a destructive inflammatory disease of the bone, usually caused by bacterial infection and rarely by fungal infection. Symptoms include bone pain with redness, fever, and weakness, and it can spread from the blood or surrounding tissue.
Symptoms
- Local redness, swelling, heat, and pain
- Fever
- Limited movement
- Draining sinus with pus
Treatment
Treatment is mainly a full course of adequate antibiotics, with surgical debridement and drainage needed in the acute phase or when an abscess is present.
Dietary advice
Strengthen nutrition, take in plenty of quality protein and vitamins, and boost the body's resistance.
