Mixed Connective Tissue Disease

Overview

Mixed connective tissue disease is an autoimmune disease with overlapping clinical features of several connective tissue diseases and high titers of anti-U1RNP antibodies in the serum. It commonly presents with Raynaud's phenomenon, swollen fingers, and arthritis, combining features of lupus and scleroderma.

Symptoms

• Raynaud's phenomenon
• Swollen fingers
• Joint pain
• Muscle weakness
• Facial rash

Treatment

Corticosteroids are the mainstay, with immunosuppressants added according to organ involvement; long-term follow-up is important.

Balanced nutrition with quality protein and fresh fruits and vegetables; keep warm.
