Rotator Cuff Injury

Orthopedics

Overview

Rotator cuff injury refers to tearing or degeneration of the rotator cuff tendons around the shoulder, caused by acute trauma, chronic overuse, or tendon degeneration. It is common in older adults and athletes, presenting with shoulder pain, weakness on lifting, and limited movement.

Symptoms

  • Shoulder pain
  • Weakness lifting the arm
  • Night pain
  • Limited movement

Treatment

Mild injuries are managed with rest, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation; severe tears or failed conservative treatment require arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

Dietary advice

Eat a balanced diet with quality protein and vitamin C to aid tendon repair.
