Interstitial lung disease is a broad group of diffuse lung disorders characterized by inflammation and fibrosis of the lung interstitium. It can be caused by dust, drugs, connective tissue disease, and other factors, presenting mainly with progressive dyspnea and restrictive ventilatory impairment.
Symptoms
- Progressive shortness of breath
- Dry cough
- Fatigue
- Reduced exercise tolerance
Treatment
Identify the cause and remove triggers, use corticosteroids or antifibrotic drugs as appropriate, and provide supportive oxygen therapy.
Dietary advice
Maintain balanced nutrition, eat small frequent meals, and stay off tobacco.
