Onychomycosis

Overview

Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the nails, commonly affecting the toenails but also possibly the fingernails. It accounts for about 20% of nail disorders.

Symptoms

• Thickened nails
• Discoloration
• Thickening
• Brittleness
• Nail separation

Treatment

Treated mainly with topical or oral antifungal medications. The course is long and requires persistent use, along with good foot hygiene to prevent recurrence.

Dietary advice

No special dietary restrictions; maintain balanced nutrition and keep the hands and feet clean and dry.
