Sarcoidosis

Pulmonology

Overview

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disease characterized pathologically by non-caseating epithelioid cell granulomas. It commonly affects the lungs and bilateral hilar lymph nodes but can involve almost any organ, and its cause remains unknown.

Symptoms

  • Dry cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fatigue
  • Lymph node enlargement

Treatment

Mild cases can be observed with follow-up, while marked symptoms or involvement of vital organs are best treated with corticosteroids.

Dietary advice

Light, balanced diet with appropriate restriction of high-calcium foods to prevent elevated blood calcium.
