Alcoholic Liver Disease

Overview

Alcoholic liver disease covers liver conditions caused by excessive alcohol consumption, including alcoholic fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, and chronic hepatitis with fibrosis or cirrhosis. It is a leading cause of liver disease in Western countries.

Symptoms

Treatment

The core is complete abstinence from alcohol, with nutritional support and liver-protective therapy; corticosteroids may be used for severe alcoholic hepatitis.

Dietary advice

Strictly abstain from alcohol, eat a high-protein high-vitamin diet, and supplement B vitamins.
