Chronic Rhinitis
ENTOverview
Chronic rhinitis is a chronic inflammation of the nasal mucosa and submucosa, often caused by recurrent acute rhinitis, environmental irritants, or systemic factors. It mainly presents with intermittent or persistent nasal congestion and increased nasal discharge, sometimes with reduced smell and dizziness.
Symptoms
- Persistent nasal congestion
- Runny nose
- Reduced sense of smell
- Swelling of the nasal mucosa
Treatment
Remove the underlying cause, use intranasal corticosteroids and saline irrigation; partial turbinate resection may be performed for hypertrophic rhinitis.
Dietary advice
Eat a light diet with plenty of vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables, and avoid raw, cold, greasy, and spicy foods.
