Overview

Chronic kidney disease is a long-term condition involving gradual loss of kidney function or structural abnormality over months to years. It is often asymptomatic early on, later causing fatigue, edema, nausea, and complications such as hypertension, bone disease, and anemia.

  • Increased nighttime urination
  • Loss of appetite
  • Anemia

Treatment

Control blood pressure and blood glucose to slow progression, correct anemia and electrolyte disturbances, and provide dialysis or transplantation at end stage.

Dietary advice

Quality low-protein, low-salt diet, limiting high-phosphorus and high-potassium foods while ensuring adequate calories.
