Meningitis

Overview

Meningitis is inflammation of the meninges, especially the pia mater and arachnoid, often caused by bacterial or viral infection. Typical symptoms are fever, severe headache, vomiting, and neck stiffness. Bacterial meningitis is dangerous and requires emergency treatment.

Treatment

An acute and serious condition requiring prompt hospitalization. Bacterial meningitis needs early use of sensitive antibiotics, while viral cases are managed mainly with supportive care, along with measures to reduce intracranial pressure.

Dietary advice

During the acute phase, follow a light, easily digestible, high-calorie, high-protein diet with adequate fluids. Strengthen nutrition during recovery.
