Concussion
NeurologyOverview
Concussion, or mild traumatic brain injury, is a transient disturbance of brain function caused by an external impact to the head. It is the mildest form of brain injury, with temporary functional disruption of the central nervous system and no obvious anatomical damage.
Symptoms
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Brief amnesia
Treatment
Management is mainly rest and symptomatic care; avoid mental overexertion and vigorous activity. Seek prompt re-evaluation to rule out intracranial bleeding if symptoms worsen or persist.
Dietary advice
Eat a bland, easily digestible diet, drink plenty of fluids, and ensure adequate protein and vitamins during recovery.
