Impetigo

Overview

Impetigo is an acute suppurative skin infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus or streptococcus, common in children and highly contagious. It is characterized by pustules and crusts, typically on exposed areas such as the face.

Symptoms

• Superficial pustules
• Honey-yellow crusts
• Red halo
• Contagious by contact
• Common in children

Treatment

Caused by bacterial infection. Clean the area and apply topical antibacterial ointment; take oral antibiotics for widespread lesions.
