Bladder Stones
UrologyOverview
Bladder stones are hard mineral deposits that form in the bladder, the hollow muscular organ that stores urine before urination. They often develop when urine is retained and can cause pain and difficulty urinating.
Symptoms
- Interrupted urine stream
- Lower abdominal pain
- Urinary frequency and urgency
- Hematuria
- Difficulty urinating
Treatment
Small stones may pass with increased fluid intake, while larger stones require cystoscopic lithotripsy or surgical removal along with treatment of the underlying cause.
Dietary advice
Drink plenty of water to increase urine output, eat a light diet, and reduce high-oxalate and high-salt foods.
