
Photodermatitis (Solar Dermatitis)

Solar urticaria is a rare form of physical urticaria and a type of photodermatitis in which an immediate allergic reaction develops within seconds to minutes after skin is exposed to ultraviolet or even visible light. It is more common in fair-skinned women.
Symptoms
- Redness
- Burning pain
- Itching
- Swelling
- Scaling
Treatment
Managed mainly by avoiding sun exposure, strengthening sun protection, local cold compresses, and topical anti-inflammatory creams; seek medical attention promptly if symptoms are severe.
Dietary advice
Follow a light diet, reduce intake of photosensitizing foods, and eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C.
