Astigmatism
OphthalmologyOverview
Astigmatism is a refractive error caused by rotationally asymmetric refractive power of the eye, so light is not focused evenly on the retina, causing distorted or blurred vision at all distances. Other symptoms include eye strain and difficulty driving at night.
Symptoms
- Distorted vision
- Blurred vision
- Eye fatigue
- Headache
- Squinting to see
Treatment
Caused by uneven refractive power of the cornea or lens. Correct with cylindrical lenses or contact lenses.
Dietary advice
Eat a balanced diet with eye-protective foods, and use the eyes sensibly to avoid fatigue.
