Vocal Cord Nodules

Vocal Cord Nodules

ENT

Overview

Vocal cord nodules are benign growths on the vocal cords, typically caused by vocal overuse or abuse. They lead to hoarseness and vocal fatigue and are common in people who use their voice heavily.

Symptoms

  • Hoarseness
  • Vocal fatigue
  • Lowered pitch
  • Throat discomfort

Treatment

Mainly voice rest and vocal training; early nodules may resolve on their own, while larger ones can be removed by laryngeal microsurgery.

Dietary advice

Drink plenty of warm water, eat a light diet, avoid tobacco, alcohol, and spicy food, and avoid overusing the voice.
