Nephroblastoma (Wilms' Tumor)

A malignant embryonal kidney tumor originating from metanephric blastema cells. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in children and is often detected only after a palpable abdominal mass develops.
Symptoms
- Abdominal mass
- Hematuria
- Abdominal pain
- Fever
- Hypertension
Treatment
Common in children; treatment combines surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy with a relatively high cure rate. Specialist evaluation is required.
Dietary advice
Strengthen nutritional support with adequate high-quality protein, and eat a light, balanced diet in small frequent meals.
