Snapping Hip Syndrome

Overview

Snapping hip is a condition in which a snapping sensation or audible pop occurs around the hip during movement, produced when a tendon or muscle slides over a bony prominence, or by intra-articular causes. It is usually painless but may cause discomfort with activity.

• Audible pop with movement
• Localized aching
• Discomfort

Treatment

Most cases require no specific treatment and are managed with activity modification, stretching, and physical therapy; surgery is reserved for severe symptomatic cases.
