Gouty Nephropathy

Gouty nephropathy is kidney damage caused by long-standing gout and elevated uric acid, resulting from deposition of urate crystals in the kidneys. It can lead to kidney stones and impaired kidney function, and is related to diet and genetic factors.
Symptoms
- Increased nighttime urination
- Proteinuria
- Joint pain
- Flank pain
- Elevated blood uric acid
Treatment
Control blood uric acid levels, use urate-lowering drugs, drink plenty of water to alkalinize the urine, and prevent kidney stones.
Dietary advice
Low-purine diet, drink plenty of water, and limit meat broth, seafood, and alcohol.
