Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Orthopedics

Overview

Carpal tunnel syndrome is compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel at the wrist. It causes pain, numbness, and tingling in the thumb, index, middle, and part of the ring finger, typically progressive and worse at night.

Symptoms

  • Finger numbness
  • Worse at night
  • Reduced grip strength
  • Hand tingling

Treatment

Mild cases are managed with a wrist splint, immobilization, and anti-inflammatory analgesics, while severe cases require surgical release.

Dietary advice

Balanced diet, supplement B vitamins to nourish the nerves, and avoid excessive strain on the wrist.
