Cardiac Arrest

Overview

Cardiac arrest is the sudden cessation of effective heart contraction from various causes, leading to circulatory failure, loss of major artery pulsation, loss of consciousness, and rapid shallow breathing that quickly stops, with the ECG showing ventricular fibrillation or asystole. It is a medical emergency that leads to sudden cardiac death within minutes without immediate treatment.

Symptoms

• Loss of consciousness
• Loss of major artery pulsation
• Cessation of breathing
• Cyanosis of the face

Treatment

Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation immediately to restore spontaneous circulation as early as possible, with comprehensive monitoring and brain protection after resuscitation.

Dietary advice

Fasting during the emergency phase, gradually transitioning from liquids during recovery, and follow a low-salt, low-fat, light diet per medical advice.
