Overview

Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle caused by various factors, most commonly viral infections. It is characterized mainly by myocardial cell necrosis and interstitial inflammatory cell infiltration.

Symptoms

  • Chest tightness
  • Palpitations
  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fever
  • Chest pain

Treatment

Management centers on adequate rest and supportive symptomatic care, controlling infection and protecting cardiac function. Appropriate medications are given for heart failure or arrhythmia, and severe cases require inpatient monitoring.

Dietary advice

Eat a light, easily digestible diet rich in high-quality protein and vitamins. Avoid spicy, irritating foods, stop smoking and alcohol, and ensure good nutrition to aid myocardial repair.
