Urticaria

Overview

Urticaria (hives) is an allergic skin condition caused by reactive dilation and increased permeability of small blood vessels in the skin and mucous membranes, leading to localized swelling. It is divided into acute (usually lasting 1 to 3 days) and chronic (persisting over 6 weeks) forms. It presents as sudden itchy, raised red welts resembling mosquito bites that often appear in different areas of the body and typically resolve within days without scarring.

Treatment

Management focuses on identifying and avoiding triggers and using oral antihistamines, with prompt medical care for severe acute attacks.
