Oligohydramnios
Obstetrics & GynecologyOverview
Oligohydramnios is a pathological condition in which the amniotic fluid volume is below the normal range in late pregnancy. It is often associated with fetal urinary tract malformations, placental insufficiency, and post-term pregnancy, and can increase the risk of fetal distress and growth restriction, affecting perinatal outcomes.
Symptoms
- Small fundal height
- Prominent fetal movement sensation
- Abnormal fetal heart rate
- Small abdominal circumference
Treatment
Identify the cause and enhance fetal monitoring, with appropriate fluid supplementation; at term or with fetal distress, terminate pregnancy as indicated.
Dietary advice
Increase fluid intake appropriately, maintain balanced nutrition, eat water-rich foods, and follow medical advice for prenatal checkups.
