Lumbar Muscle Strain
OrthopedicsOverview
Lumbar muscle strain is chronic injurious inflammation of the lower back muscles and their fascial attachments. It is often caused by prolonged poor posture, overloading of the lower back, or improperly treated acute back sprains, mainly presenting as recurrent lower back soreness that worsens with fatigue.
Symptoms
- Lower back soreness
- Limited movement
- Worse with fatigue
- Local tenderness
Treatment
Treatment is mainly rest, physical therapy, massage, and local heat application, combined with back muscle exercises and appropriate analgesics.
Dietary advice
Balanced diet, supplement protein and calcium, and avoid excess weight that increases strain on the lower back.
