Overview

A drug eruption is an adverse skin reaction caused by medication, presenting with rash, erythema, and itching, sometimes with fever and mucosal involvement. Reactions range from mild to severe and life-threatening.

Treatment

Immediately stop the suspected offending drug; mild cases take oral antihistamines, while severe cases require prompt medical care with corticosteroids.

Dietary advice

Drink plenty of fluids to promote excretion, eat a light diet, and avoid re-exposure to the allergen.
