Keratoconus

Overview

Keratoconus is an eye disorder in which the cornea progressively thins and bulges into a cone shape. It causes blurred vision, double vision, nearsightedness, astigmatism, and photophobia, usually affecting both eyes.

Symptoms

• Vision loss
• Worsening astigmatism
• Distorted vision
• Photophobia

Treatment

Early stages are corrected with rigid contact lenses; corneal cross-linking may be done in progressive cases, and corneal transplantation in advanced disease.

Dietary advice

Eat a balanced diet, avoid rubbing the eyes, and follow no special restrictions.
