Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease associated with airway hyper-responsiveness and variable, reversible airflow limitation. It causes recurrent wheezing, chest tightness and cough, often worse at night or early morning.

Treatment
Long-term controller therapy such as inhaled corticosteroids, with bronchodilators to relieve acute attacks. Identify and avoid allergens and triggers, and review medication regularly with a doctor.
Dietary advice
A light, balanced diet; avoid known food allergens and cold drinks. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables to stay well nourished.
