Seborrheic Keratosis

Overview

A benign tumor caused by proliferation of keratinocytes, occurring mainly in older people. Lesions range from light brown to black, are usually round or oval, and have a flat or slightly raised surface.

Symptoms

• Brown plaque
• Greasy scale
• Well-defined border
• Slightly raised

Treatment

Mostly benign and requiring no treatment; cryotherapy, laser, or curettage may be used for cosmetic reasons or when diagnosis is needed.

Dietary advice

Maintain a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and use sun protection.
