Adenomyosis

Overview

Adenomyosis is a benign condition in which endometrial glands and stroma invade the myometrium of the uterus. It often coexists with endometriosis or uterine fibroids. Clinically it presents with progressively worsening secondary dysmenorrhea, increased menstrual flow, prolonged menstruation, and an enlarged uterus. It most commonly affects women aged 35 to 50. Conservative treatment uses NSAIDs such as ibuprofen or hormonal control including a progestin intrauterine device.

Treatment

Choose pain relief, hormonal, or surgical treatment based on symptoms and fertility needs; hysterectomy may be considered in severe cases.

Dietary advice

Avoid raw, cold, and spicy foods during menstruation, supplement iron to prevent anemia, maintain balanced nutrition, and keep a regular routine.
