Autoimmune Hepatitis

Overview

Autoimmune hepatitis is a chronic autoimmune disease of the liver in which the immune system attacks liver cells, causing inflammation. It is most often diagnosed in patients aged 40 to 50 and is more common in women.

Symptoms

• Fatigue
• Jaundice
• Liver-area discomfort
• Reduced appetite
• Joint pain

Treatment

First-line treatment is corticosteroids combined with immunosuppressants and long-term maintenance, with regular monitoring of liver function.

Dietary advice

Eat a balanced diet with moderate protein, keep it bland, and strictly abstain from alcohol.
