Viral Hepatitis
GastroenterologyOverview
Viral hepatitis is inflammation of the liver caused by viral infection, which may be acute or chronic. The most common causes are the five hepatotropic viruses: hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E.
Symptoms
- Fatigue
- Loss of appetite
- Jaundice
- Liver discomfort
Treatment
Choose antiviral therapy based on the virus type along with liver-protective supportive care; rest in the acute phase, and monitor liver function and viral markers regularly in chronic cases.
Dietary advice
Eat a bland, easily digestible diet with adequate quality protein and produce, and strictly abstain from alcohol.
