Overview

Tourette syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder beginning in childhood, characterized by chronic multiple motor tics accompanied by vocal tics. Some patients develop coprolalia and often have comorbid behavioral problems such as attention deficit.

Symptoms

  • Eye blinking
  • Shoulder shrugging
  • Throat clearing
  • Involuntary vocalizations
  • Facial tics

Treatment

Mild cases are managed mainly with psychological and behavioral therapy, with medication to control tics in marked cases, avoiding excessive stress.

Dietary advice

Eat a balanced diet, reduce caffeinated drinks, and avoid foods with excessive additives.
