Erythema Multiforme

Overview

Erythema multiforme is an acute inflammatory skin disease often associated with herpes simplex virus infection or medications. It is characterized by erythema, papules, and distinctive target lesions symmetrically distributed on the distal limbs, sometimes involving the mucous membranes.

Symptoms

• Target-shaped erythema
• Edematous papules
• Symmetric distribution
• Mucosal erosion
• Common on distal limbs

Treatment

Remove triggers such as infection or drugs; mild cases receive symptomatic care, while severe cases require systemic corticosteroids.

Dietary advice

A light, easily digestible diet with plenty of fluids; avoid spicy, irritating foods.
