Lung cancer is a malignant tumor originating in lung tissue, most often caused by DNA damage to airway cells from inhaling tobacco smoke or harmful chemicals. Early-stage disease is usually asymptomatic, while advancing disease causes cough, shortness of breath, and chest pain.
