Corneal Ulcer
OphthalmologyOverview
Corneal ulcer is a defect of the cornea caused by necrosis and shedding of tissue from infection or injury, most often due to bacterial, fungal, or viral infection or trauma. It presents with eye pain, photophobia, tearing, and reduced vision, and can lead to perforation and blindness in severe cases.
Symptoms
- Eye pain
- Photophobia and tearing
- Vision loss
- Corneal opacity
Treatment
Treat aggressively with anti-infective eye drops based on the pathogen; severe cases require surgery. Avoid rubbing the eye and self-medication.
Dietary advice
