A malignant skin tumor arising from cells at the base of the epidermis. It grows slowly, rarely metastasizes, and commonly presents as a slowly enlarging nodule or a non-healing ulcer.
Symptoms
- Skin nodule
- Non-healing ulcer
- Local pigmentation
- Raised border
- Slow enlargement
Treatment
Treatment is mainly surgical resection, and may also use radiotherapy or local therapy; prognosis is good. Specialist evaluation is required.
Dietary advice
Maintain a balanced diet with adequate high-quality protein and vitamins, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
