Keratosis Pilaris

Overview

A chronic, common, autosomal dominant disorder of follicular keratinization commonly known as chicken skin. It is characterized by small rough bumps, often on the outer arms and thighs, and typically worsens in winter and eases in summer.

Symptoms

• Follicular papules
• Rough skin
• Dryness
• Chicken-skin appearance

Treatment

Keep the skin moisturized and use topical urea cream or retinoids to soften the keratin; mild cases need no special treatment.

Dietary advice

Drink plenty of water and appropriately supplement with vitamin A-rich foods.
