Overview

Prostatitis is inflammation of the prostate tissue and is a male-specific condition. It is classified as acute bacterial, chronic bacterial, and chronic non-bacterial prostatitis, with the non-bacterial type being the most common.

Symptoms

  • Urinary frequency
  • Urinary urgency
  • Perineal distending pain
  • Painful urination
  • Discomfort during urination

Treatment

Bacterial prostatitis is treated mainly with sensitive antibiotics, while chronic cases are managed with alpha-blockers and symptomatic treatment. Avoid prolonged sitting, holding urine, and alcohol.

Dietary advice

Drink plenty of water and eat a light diet, avoiding spicy, irritating foods, alcohol, coffee, and strong tea.
