Gestational Hypertension

Overview

Gestational hypertension refers to elevated blood pressure occurring during pregnancy. It may have no obvious symptoms but increases the risk of preeclampsia and other complications, and requires monitoring and management. Severe cases or preeclampsia need hospitalization.

Symptoms

• Elevated blood pressure
• Edema
• Headache
• Blurred vision
• Proteinuria

Treatment

Rest and monitor blood pressure; use antihypertensive therapy under medical guidance when necessary. Severe cases or preeclampsia require hospitalization and assessment of delivery timing.

Dietary advice

Limit salt appropriately, eat a balanced diet with adequate quality protein and calcium, and control weight gain.
