A cancer occurring in the tongue. It commonly presents as a non-healing ulcer or an indurated lesion and, if it extends to the neck and jaw, can be a difficult-to-treat condition.
Symptoms
- Tongue ulcer
- Tongue pain
- Local induration
- Difficulty eating
- Bleeding
Treatment
Treatment is mainly surgical resection, supplemented by radiotherapy and chemotherapy as a comprehensive plan. Specialist evaluation is required.
Dietary advice
Eat liquid or soft foods with adequate high-quality protein and calories, in small frequent meals, and quit smoking and alcohol.
